Help us keep dogs out of hot cars.
We are dog lovers here at Driving2Save. Our dogs come to work with us, star in our videos, and put smiles on our faces every day. When we talk about saving lives in our mission statement, we mean people, dogs, and other pets.
One of the biggest challenges we have taken on at Driving2Save is hot cars – not beautiful or fast cars; but rather cars that have high interior temperatures. As you may know, hot cars can be death traps. Last year, Kids and Cars reported that 51 children died after being forgotten and left unattended in hot cars. And sadly, as Best Friends and the American Veterinary Medical Association have reported, hundreds of dogs and other pets died under similar circumstances too.
These pet deaths are all preventable. The simplest way to avoid these tragedies is to keep your dog or other pet at home when you go out. But if you do have your dog with you in the car, do not leave it behind when you park. On a partly cloudy day with outside temperatures in the 70s and the windows cracked, car interiors can heat to dangerous temperatures in 10 – 30 minutes. On sunnier and warmer days with the windows up, cars can reach deadly temperatures in very little time.
Because dog lovers are human, not perfect, they may forget that they have a dog in the car when they park. Or they may forget that leaving their dog in the car with the windows cracked could prove fatal under certain conditions.
To help dog lovers (and all pet owners) keep pets out of hot cars, we have included a feature in the Driving2Save App that reminds drivers to take their pet out of the car about 10s after they park. (There is an identical feature to prevent children from being left unattended in cars as well). This simple, but revolutionary App feature, could literally save lives.
We are currently funding the development of the Driving2Save App on Indiegogo. The App is perfect for dog lovers, and it includes many other features to help drivers save lives, money, time, and the planet every time they get behind the wheel. We have a great video, featuring Austin (the Golden Retriever pictured above), that illustrates all the key features of the App. Please check it out. We need, and would be grateful for, your support. Please help us save lives by backing us on Indiegogo.
Thanks for Driving2Save.
