Help us prevent hot-car deaths by keeping young children from being left unattended in cars.
As parents, our highest duty is to keep our children safe. When we talk about saving lives in our mission statement at Driving2Save, protecting kids is our highest priority, and that includes preventing heatstroke.
Heatstroke? Yes. One of the biggest challenges we have taken on at Driving2Save is hot cars – not beautiful or fast cars; but rather cars that have high interior temperatures. You may not know, but hot cars can be death traps. Last year, 51 children died in the U.S. after being forgotten and left unattended in hot cars. Yes, 51!
Why does this happen? For starters, kids are more susceptible to heat stroke, and cars heat up more quickly than most people realize. On a partly cloudy day with outside temperatures in the 70s and the windows cracked, car interiors can heat to dangerous temperatures in 10 – 30 minutes. On sunnier and warmer days with the windows up, cars can reach deadly temperatures in very little time. We’ve done our own testing and it confirms these findings.
But who leaves their kid in a hot car? Forgetful parents. No one ever believes it could happen to them. But it does. Dozens of times a year. For this reason, the Wall Street Journal has regularly reported on hot-car deaths, and medical experts and advocacy groups, such as KidsandCars.org, have called on car manufacturers and car seat makers to create rear-seat reminder systems. These systems are coming online in certain cars and car seats, which is great news for parents.
What if you don’t have a sensor-equipped car or car seat? To help parents with young children, we have included a feature in the Driving2Save App that reminds drivers to take their child out of the car about 10s after they park. (There is an identical feature to prevent pets from being left unattended in cars as well).
This simple, but revolutionary, App feature could save lives, including the life of a child you love.
We are currently funding the development of the Driving2Save App on Indiegogo. The App is perfect for parents of young children because it includes several features to improve the health and safety of children in the car. It also includes many other features to help drivers save money and reduce their emissions every time they get behind the wheel. Please check it out. We need, and would be grateful for, your support.
Please help us save and improve lives by backing our campaign.
Thanks for Driving2Save.
